Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to place the parametric equation parameters, u or v, into the limits? The purpose is to display a subset of the surface of a sphere. For example the surface within the intercept of the sphere and an elliptic cone. Here the polar angle limit would be dependent on the azimuthal angle.

Cheers,

Edward

Maybe the easy way to do it is by using the implicit formula of the elliptic cone as a condition to limit the surface of the parametric sphere (activate the "CND" area in the K3DSURF menu). Of course a parametric formula that describe exactly this part of the surface should be feasible (Parametric formulas are however much more complicated to work with than the isosurfaces)

I didn't fully understand your purpose and a representative image would help to understand your need.

I haven't managed to make this work through CND. And k3dsurf 0.6.2 currently segfaults on my Linux laptop (it works on my other radeon system that I don't currently have access to). Is there somewhere I can upload a picture of this? I've created some wireframe models demonstrating the concept. The purpose is to show the rotational distribution of a unit vector whereby the rotation is restricted to be within various cone-like objects (i.e. the result is a 3D partial surface of a sphere). For example the polar angle phi is restricted to the maximum value of:

phi_max^2 = (phi_x*cos(theta))^2 + (phi_y*sin(theta))^2,

where phi_x and phi_y are the maximum and minimum cone angles, and theta is the azimuthal angle.

The last version K3DSurf 0.6.2.4 should work.

There is http://img.rock-hosting.com or www.flickr.com
